The thermal challenge of containerized storage
Battery energy storage systems (BESS) pack lithium cells and power-electronics cabinets that reject steady, concentrated heat. Left unchecked, rising temperature accelerates degradation and raises thermal-runaway risk, so the enclosure HVAC runs almost continuously.
Recovery that isolates the streams
A sensible plate core recovers heat from exhaust to pre-condition incoming intake air, with a solid wall keeping the two streams fully separated. This is essential: any carry-over between battery enclosure air and breathing zones is unacceptable.
Where it pays off
Recovered heat pre-warms control rooms, battery-preheat loops in cold climates, and make-up air, cutting enclosure HVAC energy. The static core also needs almost no maintenance versus rotating alternatives.
Specification notes
Match the core to the enclosure duty cycle, allow for peak charge/discharge heat, and choose corrosion-resistant materials for coastal or industrial sites.
