Heat Recovery in a Post-Combustion CO2 Capture Plant (Case Study)

The challenge

A power plant adding post-combustion CO2 capture faced a high regeneration energy penalty from the amine stripper, eroding the economics of the whole CCUS train.

The solution

All-welded plate cores recovered heat from flue gas to pre-heat stripper feed and reclaimed stripper-overhead heat back to the reboiler. The welded, gasket-free construction resists the corrosive CO2/amine environment and higher temperatures.

The result

The capture energy penalty dropped by roughly 15 percent and solvent consumption improved, moving the project closer to viable levelized cost. The same isolation principle appears in the grain-drying case, where sensible recovery avoids re-wetting the product.

Why all-welded

Corrosive, higher-temperature streams rule out gaskets; the welded pack extends duty range while keeping the two media fully separated.
