What a District Energy System Does
A district energy system produces heating and cooling centrally and distributes it through a network of pipes. It lets one efficient plant serve many buildings, replacing scattered boilers and chillers.
Where Heat Recovery Adds Value
At the generation plant and at district heating substations, air-to-air heat recovery captures exhaust and process heat that would otherwise be lost. The recovered heat raises the effective output of the whole network.
Air-to-Air in the Loop
- Recover ventilation exhaust heat from connected buildings.
- Preheat combustion or make-up air at the central plant.
- Use air-source heat recovery to lift low-grade heat into the supply.
District systems reward any efficiency gain because it is shared across thousands of users. Air-to-air exchangers are the low-cost, robust first layer before larger heat pumps or storage are added.
