Cement kilns, steel furnaces, and glass melters exhaust at 250 to 500 degrees C with heavy dust and corrosive gases. The heat is valuable, but the stream is harsh.
The Right Exchanger
Only an isolated plate air-to-air heat exchanger should be used here. Plates handle high temperature, resist fouling with proper spacing, and keep exhaust fully separated from supply air.
Why Not a Rotary Wheel
- Dust quickly fouls a wheel's matrix and destroys efficiency.
- Cross-contamination risks pushing exhaust particulates into clean intake air.
- Corrosive gases attack the wheel's desiccant and structure.
For boiler and kiln flue gas, add a white-smoke elimination, also called plume control, stage after recovery. The result is lower fuel use, less dust, and a cleaner stack without compromising air quality downstream.
